Bhutan Dagala Lakes Trek

13 days total, 7 days moderate to strenuous trekking

This adventure in the beautiful, snow-capped "Kingdom of the Dragon" begins in Paro with visits to centuries old Buddhist monasteries and fortresses. Thimphu, the capital, is the next stop with a tour of the local points of interest and an afternoon of leisure. The trek begins a short distance away at the Simtokha Dzong and proceeds through pine forests to the camp at Talekha. The trek continues up to Jelezela pass, with panoramic views of the Thimphu valley, and then on to the camp at Jephuna.

The trail to Jaduna passes many small lakes. Several larger lakes and the Jomigue pass are on the trail to Labatama, where we camp for 2 nights to allow a day hike to the summit of Aum Jomo, the highest peak in the Dagala range at 16,560 ft. The trek continues over another scenic pass and then down out of the Dagala range to the camp at village of Genekha. A short trek and a short drive returns us to Paro. The highlight of your last full day in Bhutan will be an excursion to the famous Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest) which is perched on the side of a cliff high above the Paro valley.
